AL Central Preview

Cleveland Indians

Projected Record: 95-67

After losing the World Series in dramatic fashion, how will they bounce back? I’m sure the city of Cleveland is with me when I say they would have won game 7 had there not been a rain delay. But now it is a new year and they come in being the division favorites with a projected win total at 93.5. With the addition of Edwin Encarnacion to their lineup, and Corey Kluber ready for another Cy Young caliber year, I would take their over and expect them to be battling for home field advantage in the playoffs.

Detroit Tigers

Projected Record: 87-75

As a Tigers fan I will try to keep this as neutral as I can, but the over 83.5 wins is the LOCK of the millennium. I think the Indians win the division but +450 to win the division is way too high of a line for the Tigers loaded with veterans and Justin Verlander looking great in spring training. The Tigers didn’t make too many moves in the offseason and are already missing JD Martinez to start the season, but they will get to beat up on the Twins, Royals and White Sox all season. I expect them to be in the hunt for a Wild Card spot in September and cannot wait to see Kate Upton angrily tweeting the world when Corey Kluber narrowly takes another Cy Young from Justin Verlander.

Chicago White Sox

Projected Record: 78-78

I already gave a lock of the millennium with the Tigers over, so we will just call this the lock of the season, the White Sox over 69.5 wins is free money. I think the Chris Sale trade was a robbery for what they received in return but this team still has a core of good players. The PECOTA projections love the White Sox and I completely agree. I expect Jose Abreu to learn how to hit with power like he did his rookie year and the White Sox announcers to still be the worst announcing team in all of baseball. Jose Quintana is still an ace and Carlos Rodon will be a household name by the end of the year

Kansas City Royals

Projected Record: 77-85

Speaking of sabermetrics, will Eric Hosmer ever be as good as baseball thinks he is? This team will be as good as Mike Moustakas and Hosmer take them, but after the tragic heart breaking loss of one of my favorite shit talking pitchers, Yordana Ventura, this may just isn’t their year.

Minnesota Twins

Projected Record: 71-91

This team is going to be terrible, but still finish 3rd in the division, which should tell you all you need to know about the AL Central this year. Due to their sabermetrics, the media tends to always give the Twins too much hype. Brian Dozier and Miguel Sano should be able to repeat their home run numbers from last year, but I am kind of surprised their win total is 74.5. With Fangraphs projecting them for 75 wins, I wouldn’t be surprised if they even came close to this total.
