The Walking Dead Season 7 Recap

Below is a recap of every episode and important detail that happened in season 7. Think of this article as cliffnotes for each episode.
We ended season 6 being introduced to the infamous Negan. We were left with a point of view of the victim Negan chose in his vindictive game of eenie-meenie-miney-mo. Over six months later we find out it wasn’t just one victim, but two. Abraham was victim #1 and it made sense because he was the one who took the arrow through the eye on the train tracks in the comics instead of Denise. Glenn was the original victim of Lucille in the comics and the show tried to trick you into thinking he was going to survive, but Daryl just had to punch Negan. By the way, kudos to the show for depicting Glenn’s death scene exactly how it was in the comics. Negan shows that he is the ultimate boss and Rick is now his bitch when he breaks Rick by nearly forcing him to chop off Carl’s arm. Negan let’s Rick know they will be visiting soon and leaves with Daryl as his hostage. Sasha then takes Maggie to Hilltop to recover.
Carol and Morgan arrive at the Kingdom where they meet “King” Ezekiel and his best friend Shiva, a tiger. We find out that the Kingdom, just like Hilltop, has been producing for the Saviors. But Ezekiel has made an agreement for them to meet the Saviors outside of their walls, keeping their agreement a secret from the rest of his people. Carol, being the annoying Carol she always has been, decides to abandon the community, but after bonding with Ezekiel, decides to stay in a nearby abandoned house. I wish they would have followed the comics and killed Carol off instead of T-Dog back in season 3.
Daryl is locked in isolation where Negan and Dwight continuously try to break him to become “Negan,” to which he refuses.
Negan and the Saviors arrive at Alexandria earlier than expected and take majority of their medicine, food, and firearms. It is so hard not to laugh at Negan’s lines while he mentally tortures Rick. You almost start to like the guy until you remember that he bashes people’s head’s in with a baseball bat. Rosita finds a shell casing and asks Eugene if he can make her a bullet for a gun she found in the woods.
Going back to the end of season 6, we find Tara washed up on a beach after she fell off the bridge when she got separated from Heath. She finds a girl and follows her back to her community, Oceanside. This group of heavily armed women, all the men were killed by the Saviors, attempt to kill Tara numerous times before the girl helps her escape back to Alexandria and has her promise to never speak of Oceanside again.
Carl and Enid go to Hilltop to visit Maggie. Before they arrive at Hilltop, Gregory tells Sasha and Maggie they must leave for not fulfilling their promise of killing the Saviors. Jesus convinces Gregory to let them stay after Maggie and Sasha get rid of a walker invasion that the Saviors set-up. When the Saviors come to visit Hilltop, Sasha asks Jesus to find out where Negan lives. Jesus secretly jumps into the back of their trucks where he finds Carl is also hiding. When they get near the Sanctuary, Carl tricks Jesus into jumping out of the truck because Carl wants to kill Negan alone. After killing a couple Saviors, Dwight subdues Carl and Negan is infatuated with the “stones” of Carl and gives him a tour of the Sanctuary. With the help of Jesus and an anonymous source, Daryl is able to escape the Sanctuary.
Negan and the Saviors visit Alexandria again but Rick and company are away scavenging for offerings for the Saviors. Spencer tries to get Negan to kill Rick and make him the new leader of Alexandria, but Negan doesn’t like him betraying Rick and guts him in the middle of the street. Shortly after, Rosita shoots at Negan with a bullet Eugene made, but instead of hitting Negan the bullet hits Lucille. As punishment Negan tells Arat to kill someone. Without hesitation she shoots Olivia right between the eyes. Negan then finds out who made the bullet and takes Eugene hostage. Michonne then gets Rick to agree that they need to fight the Saviors.
Hilltop agrees to fight with Rick without the blessing of Gregory. Jesus introduces Rick to the Kingdom to gather more allies. Rick meets Ezekiel and is reunited with Morgan, but Ezekiel does not want to fight. He is okay with their current agreement with the Saviors and does not want death to come to any of his people.
Alexandria finds all of their supplies have been stolen and find clues left behind by Father Gabriel that lead them to a junkyard where they meet the Scavengers. Rick convinces the Scavengers to join them in their fight against the Saviors, but their leader, Jadis, demands that Rick find them guns in exchange for their assistance in the fight.
Daryl finds out that Richard plans to have the Saviors kill Carol to motivate Ezekiel to fight the Saviors. Daryl tells Richard that he will kill him if anything happens to Carol. Daryl is reunited with Carol and lies to her about Abraham and Glenn.
Eugene quickly breaks and becomes “Negan,” his intelligence is rewarded by Negan as he sends his wives to spend the night with Eugene, but no touching allowed. Eugene bonds with the wives and per their requests, makes them a poison pill. He then refuses to give it to them when he finds out that they are going to use it to kill Negan.
Dwight finds a note from his ex-wife, who was now one of Negan’s wives, stating that she helped Daryl escape and she has left the Sanctuary. Dwight frames the Sanctuary’s doctor as the one who helped his ex-wife and Daryl escape. Negan was not happy and threw the doctor into a furnace.
Rick and Michonne find guns while scavenging and brings them to the Scavengers as part of their deal. Jadis states that it is not enough guns for their deal. Tara tells Rick about Oceanside and Tara tries to convince Oceanside to join in their fight against the Saviors. Their leader, Natania, refuses to let her people fight but is over taken by Rick’s group and forfeits their guns. Rosita makes a pact with Sasha to kill Negan together.
Ezekiel and the Kingdom meet with the Saviors for the scheduled offering. It is found that they are short one cantaloupe of their agreed to deal. Ezekiel ensures they had enough as he counted them himself. For not meeting their agreed to terms, the Saviors shoot Benjamin in the leg, causing him to bleed to death. Morgan than finds the cantaloupe in the street along their route and realizes that Richard sabotaged the offering thinking they would kill him and that would motivate Ezekiel to fight the Saviors. Morgan kills Richard for his plan leading to Benjamin’s death and informs Ezekiel of his findings. Ezekiel realizes the right thing to do now is to fight the Saviors. Morgan then informs Carol the truth about the Saviors and how they killed Abraham, Glenn, Spencer, and Olivia. Carol returns to the Kingdom to fight the Saviors with the Kingdom.
Sasha and Rosita run into Eugene while infiltrating the Sanctuary, they tell him to escape to which he refuses and runs away. Sasha tricks Rosita and locks her out of the Sanctuary, telling her to go back to Alexandria because they need her. Sasha is caught and locked in solitary like Daryl was. Negan then tries to get her to join the Saviors, she doesn't answer. She then asks Eugene to give her a way out, to which he gives her the poison pill he created. When Rosita is running to return to Alexandria she sees someone in the shadows, its Dwight.
When Rick and company return from Oceanside, Rosita shows them that she has Dwight locked up. Dwight informs them that he wants to help them kill Negan. Dwight states that he was obeying Negan because he had a reason, his ex-wife; now that she is gone he wants to end it all.
The Scavengers meet at Alexandria to help them kill the Saviors when they arrive. Rosita had set up explosives near the entrance to blow them up when they arrived. When she pushed the detonator nothing happened. The Scavengers then quickly turn their guns on Alexandria and Jadis informs Rick that she made a better deal. Negan brings out a coffin with Sasha inside as a gimmick. Negan is expecting her to be alive and doesn’t know that she took the poison pill while making the trip to Alexandria. When Negan opens the coffin zombie Sasha jumps on him, causing a distraction and a gunfight ensues. Negan, with the help of the Scavengers, was able to capture Rick and Carl. Rick and Carl are on their knees while Negan circles with Lucille in his hands. He informs Rick that he is now going to kill Carl, but he likes the kid so he will make sure he does it in just one hard swing. Rick tells Negan that he is going to kill him, maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but he will kill him. Negan laughs and as he winds up to hit Carl, Shiva attacks one of the Saviors right behind Negan, stopping him from hitting Carl. The Kingdom and Hilltop then force Negan, the Saviors, and the Scavengers to retreat. The episode ends with Negan telling the Saviors that they are now at war.
Now to wait another six months...
