White Guys Can't Win Championships

LaVar Ball is at it once again, keeping the family name relevant within the media. The father of former UCLA guard Lonzo Ball gave two reasons why the Bruins were eliminated from the NCAA tournament. His son Lonzo wasn’t 100 percent healthy because of a hamstring injury and his "white guy” teammates couldn’t pick up the slack. It’s funny that Lonzo Ball had never mentioned the injury after the Sweet 16 loss to Kentucky.

“Realistically you can’t win no championship with three white guys because of the foot speed is too slow” LaVar Ball told Southern California News Group. First off, “Can’t win no” tells me everything I need to know about this guy. LaVar is talking about the Bruins starters of TJ Leaf, Bryce Alford and Thomas Welch. LaVar added, “I told Lonzo, one of these games you might need to go for 30 or 40 points. It turned out that was the one game.” None of the three “white guys” were beat possession after possession in the loss to Kentucky. It was actually his son, Lonzo, who was dominated by Kentucky guard De’Aaron Fox to the tune of 39 points in 36 minutes. So somebody went for 30 or 40 points that night, except it was the kid who his son was guarding, not his actual son. Lonzo ended the game with just 10 points on 4-of-10 shooting from the field, but we now know it was because of his “hamstring”.

If there is a team who should be taking offense to the “three white guys” quote, it is the 2010 National Champion Duke Blue Devils. Jon Scheyer, Kyle Singler and Brian Zoubek were three "white guys" that had enough foot speed to win a national championship. That Duke team actually had five "white guys" play at least 1 minute in that National Championship game.
